Harlo. Todae i went for my first actually job interview(all me previous interview are not as formal, once they see me, they ask me to go to work le... I wonder why...) and from this interview, i learn quite a number of do's and dont's in a formal interview.
Firstly, try to rate the guy that is giving u the interview. Try to know and see if the guy is a serious type(the interviewer i kena todae falls under here) or a friendly, anything oso can type. So for me, my reaction to this guy is to be more confident, and cocky(i think the cocky thingy can save it le...)
All the questions on hardware, i think i got through them without a sweat. Then comes a question, how many PC have u assembled? My instance reply is, countless. As with everything formal in life(army, ISO, SQC and stuff like tat...), they require some quantifiable(i dont noe if i get this speeling rite or not) figures, be it 10 or 1000 or 1 million, they just need figures. Why? Cause they are scared of their english standard, they might not noe wats the diff between countless, many, some, quite alot, a little bit, all these terms and they seek to create a standard by requesting quantifiable stuff.
They reply he gave is, cannot say countless la, can i say more than 100? Okie, i said. Actual fact, did i really assembled that much pc? I can onli count 20+ but that is inmaterial cause assembling pc is like eating rice, not for me but for the general population. Currently assembling PC are so simple(those engineers doing computer designs cant think of ways to make it faster, the ppl designing rams blame the ppl designing mobos, ppl designing mobos blame the processor ppl, processor ppl blame the ram, so wat they do wif their free time? Design simple to install computer parts for the general public.... Steal my rice bowl....) that anyone wif some brain, and not color blind can do it le. Thats why to me 20+ or 100+ has no significant difference. U do one, u noe the rest le. Hahahahahahaha
Then comes the part where he ask me if i got any question for him. For this part, my advice is to ask the prospect of the job, any pay increament or rising in position, or just shut the hell up. For me todae, i went and ask a stupid question(suddenly i realise i cant think on the fly.... not on my toes....).... So is there a bond when i take this job? He goes like to say there is a three month bond, within this three months if i quit, i forfeit one month's pay, after that, one month's notice. Then he goes on to say that if i take up the job, there must be a mutual understanding(hmmmm mutual understanding wif one's boss? i cant even have that wif me gf... come one... wake up....) that i need to work for one month. Then he goes on abt better pay outside, why look for jobs when u got one, applying leave for interviews will be rejected, and gave me a mini lecture on responsibility(okie i admit i am not take responsible but after my army, i have changed alot in that department.... Really! I swear!) and the like till i wanna cry... I knew that i somehow screw it up there and then. Then i forgot to ask abt the pay increament, prospects and stuff... Imagine that! That interviewer must be thinking that this guy not too interested wor... Steaming....
Then there is this part about pay. He ask me about the salary expectation, i put it down as 1.4k. He said wat if the pay is between 1.3 and 1.4? I say i will go back home and think about it. Then he ask me to find out abt the current market rate. Okie i do noe that market rate and the same job is offered at 1.2 in another company, doing exactly the same stuff so if i really get 1.4, i can thank my lucky stars. But thats not the point. I am driving too hard a bargain here. But i think for that rate, he is getting a very good lab tech! "Snigger in appreciation" heeheeheee. Think he quite disappointed with my reply but i am sticking wif 1.4! Later he post me to problematic schools... He didnt say the pay cannot, but i refered to another job that is offering me 1.8 but need to work 12 hr shift(for this 12 hr shift work, the guy called me and ask me if interested wor, he frm another company lar. Then he gave me a technical test on the phone, and ask for my pay expectation. I said 1.3 to 1.4. Then that guy say wat he have in mind is under 2k and i feel like a stupid fool.... So he gave me 1.8 and i couldnt argue anymore... Hell i would appreciate if he put 1.95 wor.... Hahahahaa)Then this interviewer game me another small mini lecture of getting paid for wat u work. The sch lab tech thingy is a slack job(just look at the tech support in ur sch or poly lar!) that works 5 and a half daes, no ot, 5 30 finish work, holidae everything u follow the school man... Thats why i love this job man.... Hahahaha i am still lazy after all....
So after this job interview, if i dont get it, i think it is time i get a rich sugar mummy and meet my ambition, to be a WELL kept man. Heeheee Thats all folks.
