Harlo ppl. Once again, i pushed my update to a weekdae(that happens to be one of my working dae... during working hrs too... slack job i have here) but let me assure u, once i get sick of my PS2, and used to my hectic lifestyle(oh and the comp too) i will religiously update every sunday. Or so.
So how have i been? Nothing much. PS2, work, sleep, thats about all. Peppered with time for gf, time for friends, time for arcade, u guys should noe that i am leading a good and fulfilling life. So much about me.
So wat i have installed for u guys? Nothing much... My mind is in a blank... Now then i noe u can get a great kick by drinking red bull in the morning. Man... Brain dead...
Just to touch on the comments i got last issue, i realise that the general singaporeans have great misgivings for our little island. For the population here. Why so? I guess u can get this feeling by talking to the general public or reading my blog.(stuff like government are strict, PAP = pay and pay, low educaton here, stuffs like this) Most of them (including me) thinks that the government is crap. We cant vote for the other party(u know, other than PAP) as they are more crap. As we all noe, some of the other parties are prone to "NATO"(no action, talk onli). They talk alot, promise alot, but didnt really do much. And PAP, being experience and conservative(u know, they are prone to the chinese thinking, be humble, dont flaunt wat u did, ppl can see for themselves), likes to promise little, do alot, but most of wat they did, or why they did are not properly broadcast to the general public.(u think alot of ppl here read the news? how many bothered to watch the news on TV?) So ppl just crap abt wat they see or feel. Like GST increase(i truly support this), high cost of living, high cost for cars and flats. I have explained the real reason for them in my previous entry and i am not paid by the government.(even if i like to dress in "all white", i dont like PAP. Their stupid logo....)
So wat do we have? Transport fees increases, stuff increases in price, and ppl complain. They explain the reason but u need to read the news to know them. The reasons are convincing but ppl thinks that they "faking" the public, trying to bullshit us.(see? we are not that gracious afterall) But be assured that they go through audit checks, policies and lot of meetings before they come up wif these. Working with the government before, they do alot of checks and consideration before changes. They are very responsible and i am proud of them. And all they did, they didnt bother to get statistician(watever the speeling is) and give us data, and flaunt about their acheivements. They dont need to, as there are no "other strong parties" to compare with here. And the government thinks that bad comments, feedback from the general public is normal since they cant please u in everyway. They cant do away with tax or we will start to deprogress(watever other words there is). They can onli give out surplus money to the public through ERS, shares, or wat not that they can think of. With all the surplus held on by all GLCs and donations organisations, they can onli do so much.(those glc really are holding on to alot of surplus man. i read somewhere that JTC, Sembcorp are like holding on to a big chuck of the pie as the government itself are not suppose to stash money away. do correct me if i am wrong)
And abt the Lee dynasty, i hate it. Since when singapore lead by bloodlines? But if that sian long can lead, let him try since his father and PM Goh still around, they will keep him in check. (one thing i realise is ppl(like me) likes to crap and say they can do better than wat the government do but didnt really bother to voice out their thoughts or work towards leading the country) One think u realise in singapore is ppl have a "bochap" attitude to alot of things. They bochap this or that, just lead their lifes the way it is. Earn their money, and thats it. Not much ppl here(they are some who still do) bothered to do charity or community services. Why is this so? Is it because we are a nanny state? Because the government spoon feed us too much that we didnt bother to do the rest as the government are already looking into it? Is this good for our nation? I personally think that nanny state is good when we are still progressing from third world to first, but now, they should let things go, and see how competent the population is at getting things done on their own. But this is not a big issue here anyway :P
About misgivings of the general population, the government did do something. They call it the national education, telling u that no one owes us a living, dont take this for granted, stuffs like these. Stinks of selfishness to me man... (u might realise that this blog entry is incoherent, as i am doing this on and off. the lecturer keeps coming to my station and i have to switch to my actual work.) So how to tell the population how great we are?(and boost their morale and patrotic feelings all at one goal?) One thing is to give stats and compare it with Asia. As we all noe, we are alot better(in fact the best) in SEA. Ppl thinks that this is expected and take it for granted. As ppl have traveled across and see how they life, they noe how good we are but the thing is, they cant relate to how we get to this current state in the first place. Our struggle from a puny island to wat we are todae. So they take this as something they "expected" but didnt rejoice in it.(or feel proud of it) We can compare with the big forces is the world(eg jap, US, brit) but u should noe how we stand. Compare with any other country, and the general ppl here dont even noe where that country is, or wat they do.(the geographical knowledge we have here in sing is really pathetic) We are stuck in this funny situation that i cant think of any good solutions rite now.
Oh and abt the jury system, the racism issue, i think they can come up with a fomula/matrix like within on jury, there should be how many indians, chinese, malays watsoever. Like wat they did to HDB flats where u need to have a certain number of minor races in one block. Btw, jury system will use a "blue collar" judge "blue collar" defendant and "white collar" defend "white collar" defendant so to me, it is fairer than a "ultimate white collar" judge judging a "no collar, onli singlet" kind of defendant. How can the judge "feel" for the defendant? He might even hold the defendant in detest. And we can alter the jury system to suit us.(true to the "singaporean" way somemore) Like use a jury, the jury will provide views and considerations to the judge, judge still rule and pass sentences. For wat u say, since that is wat the judge is doing? But views are provided by ppl that belongs to the same work group as the defendant. Not but high level ppl that didnt even work in mcdonalds before.(or ever eat there b4)
Okie so much for all the government thingy. I got half a mind to totally bar government discussions here. Too dry and nothing much to say as most are already touched on in talkingcock.com.(and i dont want this to be another talkingcock site. this is my blog anyway) This is suppose to contain "random musings of a poor trapped soul".(as described by tahara)
I suddenly realise that i have lost a good amount of intelligent entries for this year... I used to discuss phycis, thermodynamics, quantum, funny maths stuffs, how the earth is created stuffs like this here. And back then, i dont have much readers. Think readers came after i included the comments thingy(come to my attention anyway) and after i discuss so much on politics. Never was my forte.(so its no wonder that u can detect alot of discrepancy here and there) So i have decided to repost all my past entries that i deem good for the readers' eyes. (u see, i can slack some more weeks too. good o' PS2)
Do let me know ur views on my reposting old entries.(hopefully i can get away with it) SInce most of u guys just read my blog and didnt bother to go through the archives.) And i am onli a 23 yr old, that havent really see much of the world so my views and comments can onli be so much. (and i suck at physics, sciences, maths all stuffs other than sex) So u suggest a karmasutra? U want to noe my fav positions and stuffs like tat? Due to some technical faults(go figure) i havent been engaging in activities describe above for a few years le. Any chio bus wanna help out here?
So much for this entry, this is a cock entry. Oh ya, about BONSS, i got a domain and an email account registered under the BONSS. The url is BONSS.cjb.net(which incidentally linked back to this site, check it often) and email is BONSS@email.com. Send an email there if interested. Donations u can send instructions of me getting the money to the email too. Will get a paypal and get that service up soon.(but for these 3 weeks, i onli manage to register the domain name and email, use it to roughly gauge the time needed to get the full site up) And for the services provided by BONSS, satisfaction guaranteed(bad speeling) as all the opposite sex will have to go through me first.
Thats all, as always, non sundae issue sex, er..., sux to the core. Ciaos.

Actualli right... I can draw a strange link in 2 parts of your blog... between a conservative society and the Lee dynasty... think about it... in a traditional chinese family what happens to all the property/titles and whatever not owned by the patriach of the family... it's bequeathed to the sons la... therefore since we technically are a conservative society (some by choice others not) the same logic applies la... whether it will eventually be a reality is another thing *grinz*
And as a side note... even if the government did start the whole thing with national education... I somehow don't think it'll achieve it's purpose... In moi opinion la... things like this muz be self-realised... a sense of patriotism must be internally ignited and not shoved into your head... that's moi view anyway
Cheers, Logic
thumbs up to the unknown commentor about national education. totally useless because all they do is go around shenton way for no particular reasons and sit on the boat to go around singapore river and walk along clarke quay and boat quay for no reasons again? to promote pubbing or night life? i don't know.
i feel that national education serves no purpose. oops.... i shall not touch on other stuffs, too dry for me. sam here but i'm a girl. (p/s: banedon's gf) :D
CHeers!
Lengthy responses invite other responses... However, I do not feel the need to quote entire paragraphs verbatim (pity the poor 33.6k users), so i shall assume that you've read the post I'm responding to:
Regarding the death penalty:
In my opinion, what gives one (or a collective, such as the state) the right to take another's life? As much as the murderer does? I'm sure you've heard this before, but if one accepts the proposition that no one is beyond the redemptive power of God, then one must necessarily accept this as an irrefutable argument against the death penalty. (FYI, I am agnostic (and apathetic, at that), but the concept of a universal "good" is useful in situations like this - resulting arguments against god will lead to other complicated arguments, which i'm sure educated people will try to avoid, thus saving me the trouble of responding to further ripostes... *grin*)
"What if they kill again after all those bullshit counselling?! "You argue that there is no recidivism in death. Quite simply put, the dead do not kill again - at least, not in the physical sense. Yet, what of the collective psychic wounds that have been inflicted upon society when the state commits murder? Or perhaps you mean to imply that we lack the sensitivity, the sense of humanitarism that a first world society must necessarily possess to be feel affected? I argue that these wounds inflicted upon the fabric of society are profound, and that the "no recidivism" argument is crude and primitive. It denies many other truths, which I will attempt to touch on below.
"Murders are different from you and me. You commit a crime, you have to pay for it. That’s the price of it."The gist of the matter altogether. The death penalty effectuates none of the classic principles of Justice, such as proportionality, distribution, and most notably rehabilitation. The death penalty is based on vengeance - "An eye for an eye". This notion is a simplistic one that mature societies do not endorse. Should society rape a rapist, or torture a torturer? I believe the standards of a mature society demand a more measured response.
"Seriously, do you think that it [counselling] is 100% effective? "Conversely, do you believe that the death penalty will provide a 100% effective deterrent against murder? Do you believe that a person who commits a murder case believes that he will be caught, or will carefully weigh the differences between possible execution or life in prison before they commit the deed? Murders are frequently committed in moments of passion or anger, or perhaps by substance abusers acting on impulse. There is no conclusive evidence that the death penalty provides a more effective deterrent effect against murder than life imprisonment.
"Oh well. I guess the case of the little “innocent” girl which you mentioned earlier is just a case - one in a million. "Yet, you accept that the possibility exists - and still you argue that executing the innocent, while perhaps rare, is an acceptable risk of the death penalty. A simple search on the net reveals this statistic:
"A recent study by Columbia University Law School found that two thirds of all capital trials contained serious errors. When the cases were retried, over 80% of the defendants were not sentenced to death and 7% were completely acquitted."
If a automobile maker had such failure rates, it'd go out of business.
I am aware that society takes many risks in which innocent lives can be lost. We build bridges, knowing that statistically some workers will be killed during construction; we take great precautions to reduce the number of unintended fatalities. But wrongful executions are a preventable risk. Again, the replacement of the death penalty with another, like life imprisonment, will meet society's needs of punishment and protection without running the risk of an erroneous and irrevocable punishment.
I leave it to the resident Lawyer, Ah Seng, to critique and point out the many evident flaws in my argument as he deems fit...w
I will now go back to my usual mode of comment as the now-unfamiliar mental exertion of trying to write in argumentative form has committed genocide on my brain cells, and just remark upon some points I feel I must point out...
"It is not easy to build up a country like Singapore. "Is it any easier to build up any other country?
"Besides some of the bans and systems has been with us for a very long time."
Chewing gum was with us for a very long time - the government got rid of it overnight.
"Think of it. Who’s fault is it? Who is to blame? If everybody is considerate to throw their gum into the bin. "
So we punish the entire country for the irresponsible actions of a few individuals? Wow, sounds like NS.
"Going naked in public is against the law. For sure it is. It is public disturbance."
Because society says so? I say, let them go naked in public - what's wrong with the human form? Or are singaporeans so base, that we may not contain our animal urges?
"Singapore wun fall if he fall."
Very true! Now, if only they made our election system more transparent!
I hope I have provided a few more points to ponder...
Seng here. Hey Tahara, I have never held myself out as a lawyer! Will burn my ass with that. I have read your comment and I am impressed. Ur points are valid, so are the points of Linhui. This is legal philosophy we are examining here. There is no right, there is no wrong. Just like general philosophy. Often such viewpoints are contradictory, yet valid. In the development of law, many camps espousing different perspectives with respect to law and and the role of punishment have grown and perished. Some schools have refined their thinkings. But there is nothing like a unified theory of law and punishment and I do not expect to hear of one in my lifetime.
Basically I do support the death sentence, largely based on necessity. I shall refrain from writing a lengthy discourse defending my stand though. Got too much to write. If anyone is interested, I can sell him my legal philosophy textbook. ;p
Hee, but in terms of presentation and language, Tahara is the winner. I have not seen such fine display of language in a while. Law school prohibits verbosity and creative writing. Lolx...
Cheers
Hey.. Okie.. Fine.. Thorny words ehz. Perhaps my English not that fanstastic like you. Seriously not at all good (practically suck) at using those BIG BEAUTIFUL english phrases.. Or I am stupid enough not to quote correctly and shorter paragraphs from whoever.. I major in CL lahz.. Perhaps I can express better Chinese Language. Using all those BIG BEAUTIFUL chinese phrases.. Just being lame.. -_-"
Aiya. I comment becoz I am just god damn free and I just wanna say whatever shit rubbish I feel like saying.. I don't comment to win in whatever presentation or language. Who cares whether they are useless contradicting or rubbish.. Oh well at least for me, I don't really give a damn. So thanks for your comments or whatsoever.. =)
In terms of politics, I guess there are no right or wrong comments/opinions and stuff. And I am not interested in politics. I better stick to teaching the kids will do. Leave it to the ministers. =p
I don't mean building up Spore is difficult, building other countries are easy. Building up whatever country is hard. A tough job. Chewing gums - We are still very happy with/without it. It doesn't affect our lives in anyway. There is always a price to pay. Black sheeps in society. So what if they are irresponsible actions of a few individuals, it still happen right? Every individual counts. We are all responsible for our own society and making it good. Banning chewing gum do not equal to punishment to the rest of us, I think. You say let them go naked in public? Okie. fine. Then go naked lor. What the .......
Okie.. I am just too bored while watching Denmark and Bulgaria. \(^_^)/
Aha, my response was a bit on the sharp side, wasn't it? I apologise for the barbs, argumentative writing brings out the worst in me, and I was so bored that I was contrary just for the sake of being contrary...
_(._.)_
"You say let them go naked in public? Okie. fine. Then go naked lor. What the ......."
That's the spirit! :D
And I think that it's a pretty good sign our society's too regulated when you have so many people (myself included) apathetic to what's going on.
Seng here. Yeah yeah. Now everyone is happy right? Lolx. I am just being bored with too much time on hand now, that explains all my frivolous comments. Don't take them seriously. Think we are all engaging in some good clean fun isn't it?
So in case I have offended anyone, I apologise for my insensitivity and at times complete crassness.
Cheers to freedom of speech!!!!
just a superficial take on every single weeny thing about singapore:
i) Garden City.
hell loads of shit, if you ask. went to yunnan for some volunteer work and cultural exchange, and the tour guide said that Singapore is a well-known Garden City to the Chinese nationals over there. i couldn't help but to take a dig at the govt's attempts in creating (man-made) such an environment instead. all are not as rosy as u seen in the guide books man...
ii) about the possible passing of Lee Sr.
nope, it won't cause a collapse of our stock market or investors' confidence or whatsoever. coz right now, Lee Senior is beginning to appear less and less from the public and the media, just like the passing of Deng, which had no disastrous effect on China's politics or economy. a well-planned strategy to minimise the impact of the passing of a great politician (depends on how u view the word 'great')
iii) malaysians dislike singapore, in general.
i do have some relatives who are from m'sia or staying in m'sia. hereby not exactly a supporter of our govt, but rather doing some justice for the unfair comments offered by our neighbour. that Lee Sr is an autocratic ruler (does it make Dr M any less autocratic in comparison?), that he is unscrupulous in getting rid of political opponents (the pot calling the kettle black).
my gut feeling is that they're just plain losers, who are too jealous of our hard-earned success and they didn't realise that they're pointing out their own govt's shortcomings too.
iii) crap info-educational progs on tv.
all the 'ren ren ai li' and other related progs are plain crap, manipulated by the censors and govt. the hosts have to watch what they say and more often than not, the comments offered by bypassers are those desired by the men in white and the producers. just like the crappy debate about the degrading of chinese language education (which is truly happening so), the video clips of those bypassers (the students) all claiming that Chinese language is useless and difficult to learn. isn't that what those behind the scenes wanted to hear? and in radio, when u heard that the listener who called in began to hurl some negative comments about the govt, the host will begin to say 'thank you' and put down the call rudely.
haha, all these results in self-censor and/or coffe-shop blabbering.
iv) death penalty.
i consider it effective as a deterrent or something that the uprighteous will applaud when they see a serious crime being committed. and i believe rapists, arsonists, trouble-brewers should be given stiffer penalties, even to the extent of death penalty. the living victims suffered, whereby u think the criminals 'quarantined' in the 'warehouse' will repent? how bout they go on a revenge rampage when they get out of jail? pardon me for my ignorance and strayed thoughts, i think there's no parole system in spore right? and the official stats for recidivism is as high as 85 percent! no thanks to the 'prolonged stay' in the 'warehouse'.
maybe i'm thinking a bit too far, but what if the criminal is actually innocent, wrongly accused, and that the judge has some bias or misperceptions?
hey to seng and tahara.. No hard feelings lahz.. =) I just wanna play along and do some bo liao stuff in here.. Since it's holidays and I am TOOO bored. So people, don't take it to heart whatsoever.. Hehe.. =p
